Art - Tamsin Dearing

Picture
Tamsin is a self taught, professional artist, who specialises in pencil portraiture. With a lifelong love of both art and the natural world, and years of experience of working with people who are recovering from mental ill health, Tamsin uses the visual arts to explore our innate creativity and to build confidence and skills. Tamsin says: "Through understanding that there is no wrong way to make art, we can find our own way to express ourselves, often giving a voice to a more creative self. From getting messy with clay to learning how to realistically capture your subject, there is so much to be gained from the arts, one of the most ancient forms of self expression, and it is a lot of fun too!"

Tamsin teaches simple techniques in a patient and relaxed manner, which take absolute beginners to budding artists, creating artwork that they are proud of, in a matter of hours. Drawing on her experience of working in a holistic and empowering way with people, and her training in arts and emotional wellbeing, ... activities and workshops are designed to meet the needs of each group and participant. Art activities have the benefits of increasing self esteem, self confidence, and communication skills, often unlocking that part of us that was wrongly taught years previously, that we are not able to draw/paint etc and that such creativity is only for a select few. Tamsin exhibits her work in Cornwall, where she lives, and her portraits hang in private collections internationally.

Yoga - Amy Jones

Picture
Yoga aims to connect your mind, body and spirit through the physical practice of asana (posture), breathing techniques and meditation and relaxation methods. Asanas are the physical postures of yoga.  They help to create strength and flexibility, bringing awareness to your physical body, and can help you to move and feel better.  Yoga is a great practice for every one of all ages, it is a myth that you need to be flexible to practice yoga!  Yoga is non-competitive and completing the full posture is not the end goal, it is important to listen to and honour your body during your practice to avoid injury.

Yoga unites the physical body with the mind through Pranayama (breath control), meditation and relaxation.  Yoga aims to still the mind and release it from the stresses of everyday life.

Yoga has benefits for everyone.  It feels better to have a fitter, more flexible body and can help you to control and manage the stresses of everyday life.
